Survey Reveals Growing Crypto Adoption and Positive Sentiment
Approximately 21% of US adults own cryptocurrency, and a significant 76% of these owners report that cryptocurrency has had a positive impact on their personal lives. These findings come from the "2025 State of the Crypto Holders Report," commissioned by the National Cryptocurrency Association and conducted by Harris Poll.
According to Cryptoslate, which reported on the survey on April 12th, the study surveyed 53,805 US adults, with a representative sample of 10,000 cryptocurrency owners analyzed in detail. The survey revealed that 67% of cryptocurrency owners are under 45 years old, and the gender gap is narrowing, with 31% of holders being women compared to 67% being men. Notably, 26% of holders come from households with an annual income of $75,000 or less, indicating increased cryptocurrency adoption among lower-income demographics.
Cryptocurrency Used for More Than Just Investment
The survey also highlighted that cryptocurrency is being used for purposes beyond investment. A substantial 39% of respondents reported using cryptocurrency for actual purchases, while 31% use it to send money to family or friends. Additionally, 31% utilize cryptocurrency as a payment method for business transactions. There is also significant interest in investment strategies (47%) and taxes (39%) related to cryptocurrency. The primary sources of information for cryptocurrency holders are YouTube and traditional media outlets.
Bitcoin and Ethereum Lead in Awareness and Usage
The most widely recognized cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin (99%), Ethereum (91%), and Dogecoin (91%). However, actual usage is concentrated on Bitcoin (85%) and Ethereum (58%). The size of cryptocurrency portfolios is predominantly under $10,000 (55%), with 15% holding less than $500.
A significant 45% of respondents believe that cryptocurrency contributes to financial inclusion and poverty reduction, while the same percentage highlights its role in advancing digital payment infrastructure. Half of the respondents reported experiencing greater financial independence through cryptocurrency, and 45% believe it has contributed to their personal growth.
Positive Attitude Toward Regulation
There is a generally positive attitude toward regulation among cryptocurrency holders. While 64% support government regulation, 67% also caution that regulation could stifle innovation. A strong majority (73%) believes that the United States should play a leading role in the cryptocurrency industry globally. Overall, US cryptocurrency holders view cryptocurrency as beneficial to individuals and possessing the potential to revolutionize the financial system.
